Let’s Stay Prepared Together
In today’s uncertain world, where the looming threat of cyber attacks and potential EMP incidents is a reality, it’s essential to invest extra effort in being prepared. At the meeting, after Vice President Charlie Brown delivered a compelling presentation on Wire Antennas, and President Rick Senkowsky provided an update on the club house’s antenna (refer to Jan/Feb Minutes for details), this was the focal point of February’s meeting. Key individuals were introduced representing ARES and the SC State Guard, they included:
- Edward Knowles (K4ERK), ARES Emergency Coordinator, Newberry County Area 3, K4ERK@ARRL.net
- Commander 2LT Daniel Starkey, SCSG-2BN-Highlanders Alpha Co
- WO1 John Duffy
- SGT Ronald Baltruwait
Mr. Knowles emphasized the requirement for trained and prepared volunteers, expressing Newberry County’s ARES interest in collaborating with local Amateur Radio groups like DFARG. Commander 2LT Daniel Starkey underscored the critical importance of ham radio training, stressing its relevance for civilians, military personnel, and first responders. The Commander expressed plans for future discussions with President Rick Senkowsky and the board to establish a training and working relationship with DFARG.
